AN early morning dash to a supermarket filled a prize raffle winner's cupboards with almost £700 worth of free food.

Ian Stidwell, from Brandon, won a trolley dash around the Asda store, in Spennymoor, in a competition run by the town's Rotary Club. Money raised through the event has been shared among Care of the Aged, Spennymoor Town Band, Macmillan Cancer Care and the Catherine Readshaw Bone Marrow Transplant Appeal.

CRICKET FUNDS: Teams will be hurling wellies and negotiating water hazards next week to raise cash for young cricketers. Contestants will be taking part in wellie throwing and a water relay, while visitors can enjoy stalls including a coconut shy and a bouncy castle.

BOBBY DAZZLERS: Trainee police officers at the Centrex training centre, in Durham Police headquarters, raised £1,101 for the Clarke Lister Brain Haemorrhage Foundation, in Peterlee, which aims to provide specialist nurses and counselling for victims and their families.
