DANCE-GOERS are being invited to enjoy a night of their favourite sounds, overseen by celebrity DJs to boost facilities at a Durham creche.

A dance event, aimed at 13-18-year-olds, will be staged at Abbey Sports Centre, Pity Me, on Saturday.

Backed by Galaxy Radio, the event features two of the station's disc jockeys, Dave Kelly and Kareem, plus local dj Mikey B.

Mikey B, real name Michael Boyce, has organised the event to boost the funds of a well used, but under-funded crche based at Cranmer Hall, within St John's College of Durham University. The creche, run by Sue Harrison and a small team of assistants and volunteers, serves not only the children of university staff and students, but is also open to the public.

Michael said: "My daughter goes to the crche and anyone visiting will see they are sorely lacking a lot of facilities which new creches have these days.

"Part of the money will pay for equipment, but a proportion will go towards the funding of their first outing."

Michael thanked local businesses which have helped to back the event in a bid to make it a success.

They include Steve Anderson, who runs Pulse dance events for under-18s, The Florists' Shop group, Tropical Tan, Top Tiles, vehicle parts supplier Andrew Page and Dotcom Systems.

Tickets are available from the centre on (0191) 383 1199.
