PART of the North Yorkshire coastline that has had £85m invested in it during the past few years still needs more money, says a report.

Scarborough Borough Council is looking to update its economic development strategy to boost the economy of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey over the next seven years.

Richard Grunwell, chairman of the Yorkshire Coast Partnership, which has drawn up the strategy, said: "The blueprint will provide a framework for public, private and voluntary sector agencies to work together to tackle the problems and also to maximise the benefits of the opportunities."

The document includes a list of "opportunity sites" for investment that includes Scarborough's North Bay, town centre, Spa, Futurist Theatre, Royal Opera House, harbour and old town, plus the harbour and marina at Whitby and the former Butlins holiday camp and country park at Filey.

In a report that goes before the council's cabinet next week, the authority's chief executive, John Trebble, says there is also a need to upgrade hotel accommodation and improve Scarborough's conference facilities.
