MOUNTAINEER Alan Hinkes will this week join veterans from the first expedition that conquered Everest to mark the moment a man stood on top of the world.
The North Yorkshire climber has been invited to attend the special event in in the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu.
He will join other Everest summiteers to mark the 50th anniversary of the first ascent.
Among the guests will be Sir Edmund Hillary.
Veterans of the first ascent will talk about their triumph at a reunion attended by the Queen in London, on Thursday - 50 years to the day that Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay became the first men to reach the 29,028ft summit.
Hinkes, who lives in Northallerton, has already conquered Everest and is hoping to complete a bid to climb the world's 14 highest peaks later this year.
