THE Wizard of Oz's Dorothy met wildfowl park ducklings when she arrived to promote a charity walk.

Dorothy, accompanied by Courage the Lion, visited the Washington Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre, on Wearside, on one of its Downy Duckling Days, ahead of The Children's Foundation's Yellow Brick Road appeal sponsored walk, taking place at the centre on June 22.

The classic film character, played by a supporter of the event, challenged local people to walk the yellow brick road while getting close to newly-hatched ducklings, as well as ducks, geese, swans, and flamingo from all over the world.

With a choice of different routes - the 800m toddle, the 2.5km stroll, the 8km riverside route and the 12km challenge - it is hoped that the walk will attract people of all ages and fitness levels.
