A TALENTED trampolinist is flying high after qualifying for national championships.

Rachel Ayre, 11, who trains with the Cowgate Trampoline Club, in Newcastle, will compete in the under-13 section of the British National Championships, at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre in July.

To compete in the national finals, trampolinists have to achieve a score of 53. Rachel gained a 54.4 points score in a recent competition.

Because the age threshold for entry to the Great Britain trampoline squad is 15, judges scrutinise competitors in the under 13 competition for future stars.

Coach Rose Glover said: "When Rachel came here at the age of seven, she didn't stand out particularly, but she is really determined and has gone from strength to strength, proving herself a fantastic competitor.

"She already represents the regional squad and, hopefully, some performances in the national competitions will see her making an impact at national level."
