EIGHT jobs are expected to be created in Darlington as a textiles company expands its warehouse by 30,000 square feet.

Coats Crafts UK, at Lingfield Point Business Park, will use the extra space as a distribution centre for its sister company, Rowan Yarns, of Holmfirth, in West Yorkshire.

The company needs the extra space because Rowan Yarns has been expanding its range of Rowan and Jaeger hand-knitting yarns and designs in the UK and abroad, and has outgrown its warehousing facilities.

The two sister companies, owned by international business Coats plc, will continue to trade separately, with Coats Crafts UK performing warehouse duties for Rowan alongside the distribution of its own hand-knit and craft products.

Lingfield Point was built in 1947 by Paton and Baldwins, which merged many of its older factories to create the largest wool-manufacturing site in Europe.

The company, which is now Coats Crafts UK, leases 76,000 sq ft of warehousing and 13,000 sq ft of office space at the redeveloped Lingfield Point industrial development.
