CHILDREN took part in a multicultural art workshop yesterday.

This week, the New Deal for Communities (NDC) in Hartlepool is running workshops to help residents forge closer links with people from different backgrounds.

Activities taking place include making Japanese kites and Chinese lanterns, and Egyptian dancing.

At the town's People's Centre yesterday, youngsters were given the chance to make maracas and bongos.

Vanessa Zandani, the NDC resident steering group member who organised the event, said: "The whole week is set to be terrific, packed with lots of interesting activities."
