THE wayward brother of Girls Aloud star Cheryl Tweedy has ended up in court again - weeks after vowing to turn his life around for her sake.

Andrew Tweedy, 22, embarrassed his sister with a court appearance just a day before her triumphant homecoming at Newcastle's Telewest Arena on Saturday.

Newcastle Magistrates' Court heard how he and another man had raced a scooter they had taken up and down Newcastle's main shopping street, at 3.45am.

The offence came less than a month after Tweedy announced he was changing his life after his last court appearance.

He said at the time: "I have given up the glue and I'm trying to turn my life around. I'm doing it for Cheryl."

Tweedy, of Heaton, Newcastle, was spared jail on that occasion after admitting to three charges of harassment and interfering with a motor vehicle.

Yesterday, sentence on Tweedy was adjourned until June after he admitted taking the scooter without lawful authority and riding without a helmet.

At an earlier hearing, co-accused, Carl Burn, 24, of Anvil Crescent, Walker, Newcastle, who also admitted drink-driving, was given a three-year driving ban, a Community Rehabilitation Order and ordered to do a two-year course for drink drivers.
