A COUPLE from the Yorkshire Dales have been struck off the professional nursing register because of their lack of care for an elderly patient.

The husband-and-wife team, who ran a nursing home in Leyburn, were removed from the register following a hearing in Harrogate.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) professional conduct committee found George Richardson, 66, and June Richardson, 63, from Moulton, each guilty of 14 charges of misconduct.

The charges related to a time between September 1998 and February 1999, when they were the proprietors of the Wensleydale House Nursing Home in Leyburn.

The committee heard that the Richardsons failed to ensure adequate care was given to a patient in relation to the completion of records and assessments for care issues including tissue risk, continence and pressure areas.

Having been removed from the register, the couple can no longer practise in the UK.

The NMC's director of professional conduct, Liz McAnulty, said: "Mr and Mrs Richardson have consistently failed to provide adequate care for a vulnerable patient.

"Their lack of action and failure to carry out important record keeping and assessment procedures have placed her health and well-being at risk. They have been removed from the register to protect the public."
