Police are hoping the public can help trace a quad bike stolen from a farm near Gayle, Upper Wensleydale, over the weekend. The black and green Kawasaki, worth about £2,500, went missing on Saturday. Anyone who may have seen strangers in the village or has been offered a similar machine is asked to call police.

ROAD PLANS: Restrictions will apply to traffic using Straylands Grove, Woodlands Grove and Elmway Park, in York, this weekend during the York International 9s Rugby Festival. Vehicles will be prohibited from waiting on the sides of the roads from 8am on Saturday until 6pm on Sunday.

LANDFILL SCHEME: North Yorkshire County Council planners have approved a scheme to make use of gas produced at West Tanfield landfill site, near Ripon. But they have insisted on a restoration plan once work is completed, as well as imposing a condition to control noise.

Tongs blaze: A pair of hair tongs that had been left on are believed to have started a fire which badly damaged a student house in Redgrave Close, York. No one was hurt.
