A JCB digger was stolen after it was left parked at roadworks between Richmond and Reeth.

The vehicle, registration number N391 YHH and with the serial number 760075, went missing between Monday night and Tuesday morning. Anyone who may have seen it being driven along the A6108 is asked to contact police in Richmond on (01609) 783131.

BUILDING LINKS: Staff from a Richmond building firm have benefited from another local company's charity fund. The Builder Center gave staff from Randall Orchard Construction £100 after they completed the Three Peaks Challenge, helping to boost their fundraising total to £6,609. The money will go to Care International UK.

SAFETY TIPS: A booklet offering tips on how to keep children safe from accidents will be launched by the Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Primary Care Trust tomorrow. Scarborough MP Lawrie Quinn will lead the ceremony at the resort's SureStart office.

HORSE SPECTACULAR: A two-hour horse show, which includes displays by Russian Cossacks, Arabian stallions, equestrian ballet and comedy, comes to York Racecourse next month. SHED BURGLED: Two lawnmowers went missing from a garden shed at a property in Quaker Lane, Richmond, on Monday. One was later found abandoned nearby, but a petrol-powered Suzuki hover mower, worth about £320, is still missing. Police have urged anyone offered similar machinery cheaply, or in suspicious circumstances, to be alert.

FAIR DATE: The Key Centre, Middleham, will host a plant fair this weekend. Stalls selling unusual plants will be open from 10am to 4pm, on Sunday, as the town holds its annual festival.
