A £200,000 project to ease parking problems and improve areas of open space in parts of north Hartlepool has been completed.

The work has been carried out in Miller Crescent, Fulthorp Avenue, Ridlington Way and Goldsmith Avenue.

Parking bays have been built on some of the grassed verges, access has been improved and turning areas and parking laybys have been created beside some of the roads.

Improvements have also been made in Warren Road and Davison Drive, where extra car parking spaces have been built on some of the grassed verges near the shops, to help ease parking congestion.

Extra footpaths have been created across the verges, which were smartened up and reseeded with grass.

The scheme has been funded by the North Hartlepool Partnership.

Councillor Denis Waller, chairman of the North Hartlepool Partnership, said: "I am very pleased the partnership has been able to fund this work.

"A lack of parking spaces close to people's homes has been a real problem in these areas, which in turn has led to congested roads and people parking on the grassed areas, making them very unsightly."

He added: "The improvements should considerably ease these problems, enabling more residents to park outside or close to their homes, while at the same time retaining a good proportion of the green spaces."
