THE owners of Teesport saw profits grow ten per cent for the year ended March 31.

PD Ports, Logistics and Shipping (PDPLS) said pre-tax profits rose from £10.85m to £11.93m on the back of group turnover rising 5.9 per cent to £156m.

Graham Roberts, chief executive, said: "Overall, PDPLS has done well, and these results compare very favourably with similar companies in the ports and logistics sectors.

"Our performance, with profits and sales growth of almost ten per cent and six per cent respectively, compares well against the recent performance of companies such as AB Ports, Mersey Docks and Harbour, and Forth Ports in the ports sector, and also when compared to logistics and transport businesses such as Salvesens and TDG."

The company is investing £20m to double the capacity of its container handling facilities at Teesport. The new terminal is already receiving vessels and will be fully operational by October, when capacity will be an additional 80,000 containers, making a total capacity of 160,000.
