A BUSINESSMAN is urging companies to take advantage of the extension of Internet broadband services.
BT has extended the range of its broadband exchanges by 500m, from 5.5km to 6km.
Neil Stephenson, sales and marketing director of Teesside Internet service provider Onyx Internet, said it will help the economic development of the North-East.
He said: "The breakthrough will have positive effects on the North East, by making the area even more attractive to new investment whilst helping more of the region to take commercial advantage of the services that broadband offers.
"Bringing broadband to within reach of as many North East businesses as possible is crucial for the successful economic development of the region."
