CHILDREN at a Newton Aycliffe primary school have been learning how to design their own clothing.

Pupils from St Francis CE Junior School attended an after-school club, funded through the New Opportunities Funds (NOF), to design T-shirts.

Their art work was sent to Art Projects For Schools, which produced the T-shirts for the children in the appropriate sizes.

Headteacher Sandra Whitton said: "The children are really delighted with their T-shirts. They are very proud of their efforts and feel that they have designed and created something special.

"We are extremely grateful to the NOF for enabling us to carry out this after-school activity."

Anne Timothy, partnership development manager for the study support unit at Durham County Council, said: "St Francis are among many schools who are delivering creative and rewarding out of hours activities in County Durham thanks to the New Opportunities Fund. The study support unit is delighted with the progress and is beginning to see significant evidence of a positive impact on children and young people's achievements."
