A FATHER and daughter have designed an award-winning website which tells pupils about meals on offer at their school.

Arnold Fewell, a catering consultant from Northallerton, and his daughter Karen, decided to create the site to help local authorities nationwide promote school catering.

"As a catering consultant, I realised that many local authorities wanted to set up their own websites to put out information about food and eating at schools," he said. "The cost of doing it individually can be enormous.

"We have designed a basic site that any number of local authorities can use and adapt to suit their needs. They can use the template to provide their own information."

The site - www.myschoollunch.co.uk - has an array of features set as standard, including games for youngsters to play which have an educational link.

It was launched in March and so far five local authorities have taken part, with another three going live in the autumn.

Within the first month, 20,000 children had visited the site - with more than 80 per cent returning.

The web designers have recently won a top national marketing award from the Local Authority Caterers Association.

Mr Fewell said: "We are absolutely delighted to receive our first award."
