PUPILS from the region will get a taste of life as a medical student this summer.
Durham University is holding a three-day residential course at its Queen's Campus, in Stockton, Teesside.
The Medical Summer School is organised by second year student Michael Griksaitis, a former pupil at Norton Comprehensive School.
A spokeswoman for Durham University said: "This is the first time we have organised anything like this for school students. We are pleased that we have had a lot of applications for places."
A total of 36 16-year-olds from local schools are signed up for the course which begins on July 28.
The university recently teamed up with Newcastle University Medical School to provide training places on Teesside.
