THE World Quoits Championships will be staged in the North-East this weekend.
Competition will be fierce at the Beamish Museum, near Stanley, County Durham, with entries from throughout the region and southern Scotland.
Thirty-five teams will compete for the pairs title, starting at 12.30pm today.
Tomorrow, the competition will begin at 10am, with 95 competitors taking part in the singles matches.
The championships have been organised by the National Quoits Association and sponsored by Queens Court Business Centres, of Teesside and Wearside, and the Charles Bathhurst Inn, of Arkengarthdale, North Yorkshire.
A spokesman for the event said inquiries about the ancient game - thought to date back to Roman times - have been received from as far afield as Canada and Australia.
