A WENSLEYDALE housewife produced her best ever round of golf to win the recent gold medal final of the Northern Region (Cumbria, Northumberland, Durham and Yorkshire) golf clubs' silver division medal winners.

For Midori Richardson (pictured right), of Worton, the most memorable event during the final at the City of Newcastle GC was breaking 80 for the first time.

It was the first time she had played at the course and she only did so because it was reasonably easy to reach from Wensleydale. Her gross score for the final was 79.

She said: "That was a very good achievement for me." She and her husband, Tom, began playing at Catterick GC 14 years ago to get to know people after moving into the area.

Her efforts at Newcastle saw her handicap reduced from 13 to 11. Her net score in the final was 66, with four others on 67. There were 88 contenders in the final, with the standard score on the course being 72.

Catterick GC celebrated another success by women members last month when their lady captain, Gisela Newman, and Ros Downing came second in the area final of the Peugeot Coronation foursomes at Durham City GC. Their score of 71 was just one more than the winners.
