EIGHT bodybuilders from across the region will be flexing their muscles in a strongman contest today.
The competition, at West Pelton Primary School, near Chester-le-Street, is a heat for the tenth North East Strongest Man finals, to be held in Barnard Castle on August 24.
The competitors will be put through their paces in a series of strength tests, including a race while carrying two 120kg weights - the equivalent of running with a 20-stone man under each arm.
Organiser Bob Daglish said: "Half of those taking part competed in the last Britain's Strongest Man contest, so the standard is quite high."
Visitors will also see the contestants push an off-road vehicle along a 25m track, lift a car, roll beer barrels and pull a tractor.
Competitors taking part include David Cowan from Ferryhill, near Sedgefield and Graham Dale from Hartlepool.
The event is part of West Pelton Primary School's summer fair, which starts at 2pm. Admission is 50p.
