A POPULAR ward councillor is to step down from his role on Darlington Borough Council's community protection committee.
Councillor Paul Baldwin will leave the post on Thursday but will continue to serve Cockerton East as a ward councillor.
Coun Baldwin cited family reasons for his decision to leave his post as a cabinet member for community protection.
His post will be taken over by Councillor Chris McEwan, ward councillor for Haughton East.
Coun Baldwin said: "It is with regret that I am stepping down from the cabinet, but there comes a time when family considerations take precedence.
"Chris McEwan will, I am sure, make an excellent replacement."
Coun McEwan, 37, has been a ward councillor for Haughton East since 1999.
He is married, with three children, and lives in the Haughton area.
