THE public will continue to be allowed to address planning meetings of Hambleton District Council.
The opportunity for public speaking will become permanent following a six-month trial.
More than 70 people made their views known to councillors in development control committee meetings.
Maurice Cann, head of development services, said yesterday: "The introduction of public speaking has been a massive success.
"The system has opened up the planning process for the public, allowing them to be much more involved in the decision making."
A maximum of three minutes per speaker is allowed and speakers cannot enter into debates or question councillors and officers.
Developers, objectors and parish councils are notified in advance of meetings and those intending to speak must register at least twenty minutes before the meeting.
A leaflet explaining the process is available from council offices.
