HUNDREDS of Morris dancers are in the region this weekend to celebrate their ancient art.
The Benfieldside Morris Men group, based near Consett, County Durham, is hosting the 296th meeting of the Durham Morris Ring, taking place in Durham City.
Based at Durham School, teams from around the country will be dancing in the city and surrounding area today and tomorrow.
Teams attending include Stockton Morris and others from Manchester, Exeter and Stafford.
Many are staying at the Wardle Bridge Inn, Holmside, near Consett, and landlady Maggie Smith is looking forward to a display in her car park this afternoon from 12.30pm.
She said: "The Benfieldside Morris Men drink in our pub, so we thought it would be nice to offer them the opportunity to dance here this weekend."
