TWO victims of crime turned the tables on the thieves when they led police straight to them with the help of their mobile phones.
Three people were arrested following two separate incidents at the weekend, one in the Thirsk area of North Yorkshire, the other near Richmond, North Yorkshire.
In Thirsk, a horsebox was stolen but the owner managed to follow it as the thief drove it away.
He contacted police on his mobile phone and kept a running commentary as he followed the vehicle south. Police arrested a man.
In a similar incident, an 18ft trailer was stolen from Reeth and, again, the owner was able to follow the thieves.
Police made contact in Richmond and, although one man attempted to escape by taking a lifebuoy and attempting to float down the river, two men were detained. Another man is still being sought.
Three men were also arrested after a horsebox was stolen from the Bedale area.
