THE Church is helping a group of blind people enjoy a fun-filled holiday in Blackpool.
The Social Care Fund of the Church of England's York Diocese donated £500 to the Malton, Norton and District In-Touch Group, which assists and supports visually impaired people in Ryedale.
The grant will help cover the costs for volunteers who are supporting a five-day holiday for 11 people at the Royal National Institute for the Blind's Century Hotel, Blackpool, in September.
Most people on the trip live on their own, two are aged over 90 and all are over 70.
Malton, Norton and District In-Touch Group organises social events and visits, provides information and advice, works with other health and support agencies and provides a forum and a voice for visually impaired people across the area.
The chairwoman of the fund, Veronica Lady Piercy, said: "In-Touch is a crucial lifeline for people who can be very isolated and sometimes lonely.
"I'm delighted that through the social care fund, the churches of the York diocese can help In-Touch to make a real difference to some of these people."
