A PENSIONER was taken to hospital with multiple injuries yesterday after a head-on collision between a car and a van near Teesside International Airport.
The 81-year-old woman, from Darlington, was travelling on the A67 towards Yarm in a green Citroen Zara when the crash occurred between Urlay Nook and the airport, at 10.45am.
A police spokesman said it happened as a line of traffic overtook a tractor.
Fire crews cut the pensioner free from her car. She suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries and was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the white Renault Kangoo van declined to be taken to hospital.
Cleveland Police accident investigators urged witnesses to the accident, particularly the drivers of the first two vehicles to overtake the tractor, to call PC Adrian Chadwick on (01642) 301554.
