A VILLAGER is demanding compensation from Darlington Borough Council after accusing the authority of destroying trees.
Parish councillor Mike McBride told a meeting in Middleton St George this week that several trees along the riverbank at Middleton- One-Row had been irreparably damaged.
He said: "Darlington council cut the grass around the trees and have started to use strimmers which cut the bark away.
"One tree is dying and there are at least three others that we planted that will go the same way.
"We need to complain to Darlington council and ask them to replace our trees because they have damaged them."
Ward councillor Doris Jones said: "I understand your anger. So let's take some action ourselves and put some protectors around the trees."
The parish council agreed to write to Darlington council to ask for guards to protect the tree trunks and bark.
