A SHOP highlighting the talents of County Durham artists will open next week.

The Pace Shop - which stands for People Accessing the Community and Environment - will be opened by Durham County Council chairman Alan Fenwick on Monday, at 11am.

The shop, run by County Durham Care, is in the Thames Centre, Newton Aycliffe.

Arts and crafts on display in the gallery will include a wide range of techniques and brings together the work of locally-based artists and those who access County Durham Care's services.

A spokesman for the service said: "The Pace Shop will provide valuable gallery space for local artists, along with workshop facilities where regular arts and crafts workshops will be run and will be open for anyone."

The shop will also act as a base for County Durham Care's Art Loan, a new scheme which offers local businesses the chance to loan original artwork free of charge to display on their walls.
