A PUPIL received a unique reward after not missing out on a day at school this year.
Thomas Vaughan, of Joseph Swan School, Gateshead, got to tilt the town's Millennium Bridge in return for his 100 per cent attendance during the past school year.
The 13-year-old was transported in style from school by the Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor David Lynn, with his parents, to Gateshead Quays for a guided tour of the bridge's workings.
He then had the chance to tilt the bridge, which has won numerous design and engineering awards.
He was given the honour after his name was drawn out of a hat from all of the pupils at the school who had 100 per cent attendance this year.
Coun John McElroy, council cabinet member for learning and culture, said: "I am delighted that Thomas has received this unique chance to tilt the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, after not missing a day at school this year.
"But of course, Thomas is not alone, with youngsters across the borough recording similar attendance records."
