A training centre is to reopen, creating jobs and training opportunities.

The Training, Advice and Development (TAD)centre in Ormesby Road, Middlesbrough, shut at the start of the year when the company that ran it went into liquidation.

Middlesbrough Council, which owns the centre, plans to reopen it by the New Year and use it as a base for the East Middlesbrough Sure Start programmes, a nursery, conferencing and residential training facilities and adult learning courses.

In addition, some rooms at the centre will be used by the North East Council of Tenants and Residents.

Talks are continuing with training firm TTE Management and Technical Training to bring the residential and conference facilities back into use.

Councillor Nicky Walker said: "The proposals will mean the TAD Centre can be open for business again. The announcement follows six months of intensive work to find a productive and sustainable use for the centre and bring direct benefits to the local community.

"I hope that people in east Middlesbrough will take full advantage of these new opportunities on their door-step."

Sure Start is a ten-year Government programme providing support and advice services for parents with young families.

The Sure Start child care team plans to establish an Approved Assessment Centre, which will run NVQ courses in childcare from the centre.

Nunthorpe Nurseries will also base a nursery at the centre, creating 20 jobs.

The TAD complex was built as a Middlesbrough City Challenge project in 1994.
