Alan Berry has had his share of adverse publicity in recent times but the Cockerham trainer can make the headlines for all the right reasons by landing a double at Carlisle this afternoon.

For Berry can be on the mark with both Laurel Dawn in the Kingmoor Park Properties Ltd Showcase Handicap over five furlongs and with Beauteous in the Lakes Court Hotel Handicap over seven furlongs.

Laurel Dawn hasn't had much luck with the draw this term but he showed his winning turn was close with a solid second to the bang in form Guns Blazing at Haydock on Sunday.

That form was franked the following day when fourth-placed Brigadore went on to win a decent Ayr handicap and Laurel Dawn must have fair claims from the same mark from what looks a decent draw in stall nine.

Berry's course and distance winner Beauteous has been anything but disgraced since his win last month but he's well drawn for one that races up with the pace and he's sure to go well under ideal conditions.

At Pontefract's evening fixture David Nicholls' Izmail, who bounced back to form with a very creditable second to Brigadore on Monday, looks the one to be on in the Antonia Deuters Rated Handicap over five furlongs.

Although the four-year-old hasn't won for over two years, he's only been with his current trainer for a short time and showed more than enough on Monday to suggest he can go close here under similar conditions.

Eric Alston's Unshaken could be the answer to the Weatherbys Injured Jockeys Fund Handicap over a mile.

Although he's not won for some time, he's been running well over this trip of late and, with a couple of confirmed pacemakers in the line-up, he looks as though he's going to get the race run to suit.

At Hamilton's evening meeting Celtic Mill looks the bet of the day in the valuable Tennents Scottish Stewards Cup over six furlongs.

David Barker's five-year-old looks better than ever this term and is almost certainly better than the bare form of his last win at Pontefract would suggest when dropped to this trip as he had to overcome a wide draw.

His stall nine draw looks a good one and, although he has a penalty to carry and is up in grade, looks well worth an interest, especially as he has the early foot to bag the favoured far rail.

Nicholls' Tap has the pace to offset a drop in trip and he's taken to complete the three timer in the John Banks Handicap over six furlongs. He's in tremendous form following wins on the sand at Southwell and at Beverley and he's still capable of giving a good account under these conditions from his current mark.

Back in the afternoon Sir Michael Stoute and Kieren Fallon can be on the mark in the first two maiden races with newcomers Red Bloom and Dance Solo respectively.
