STORE staff have become the first to win a new certificate for keeping litter off the streets.
The Consett North Partnership set up the Keep Consett Clean scheme to tackle the problem earlier this year.
Member Mary Westgarth worked with Derwentside District Council and local businesses along the town's Middle Street, asking shopkeepers to take a more active role in making sure waste does not end up on the street.
The volunteers were so impressed with efforts by Kwik Save that they gave store manager Scott Wallace their first Keep Consett Clean certificate.
The next award will take place in October.
