WORKS by the artists who captured the life of a 19th Century North-East fishing village go on display together for the first time today.

Cullercoats: A North-East Colony of Artists, is on show at Newcastle's Laing Art Gallery.

In the late 1800s, Cullercoats, in North Tyneside, attracted a number of artists. They included well-known local painters Robert Jobling, Isa Thompson, H H Emmerson and John Charlton, and visiting artists, among them American Winslow Homer.

The exhibition features 100 works drawn from art collections in the region, plus others loaned from major British and US galleries. These include six works by Homer.

The Laing Art Gallery is open Monday to Saturday, 10pm to 5pm, and Sunday, 2pm to 5pm. Admission free.
