THE Wee Willie Winkie nursery rhyme was brought to life at an east coast town.

Youngsters from Gillbrook Technical College at Middlesbrough, ran three miles down the South Gare breakwater in their night clothes, into Redcar, where they dipped into the North Sea for charity.

The event raised £300 for Zoe's Place Baby Hospice, at Normanby, near Middlesbrough, for terminally ill babies and young children with special needs.

Carolyn McLaughlin, organiser, said: "The event was a huge success with everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves."

Jennings Ford loaned the school a mini bus to provide support to the participants. Alan Bailes, of the company, said: "It was a pleasure assisting the college with their charity event."
