Bedale - July Medal: Roger Parry, having played at Thirsk and Northallerton golf club representing Bedale B team in the Harrogate Union's first division championship, went round in a gross 72 and then rushed back to his home club and played another 18 holes returning a gross 71.

When his handicap was taken into consideration this gave him a nett 67 which won him the medal division. Well done Roger. With close scoring countbacks were required in this and other divisions. The Brown family, Neil and Darren, father and son, were also in the prizes in the first and second division. Well done to both.

Results - Division One: 67 Roger Parry (4), also Chris Nattrass (10) and Neil Brown (5).

Division Two: 65 Dan Murdoch (16) and Darren Brown (13); 66 Ron Burleigh (15).

Division Three: 67 Colin Smart (28); 69 Patrick Garnett (26); 70 Neil Edson (22). Roger Parry, Dan Murdoch and Colin Smart all qualify for the medal final in September.

Hodgson Cup

A bogey competition for this cup produced excellent scoring in this tough competition with the following results:

Division One: plus 5 Neil Brown (6); plus 4 Howard Drake (11).

Division Two: plus 4 Tim Morris (14) and Ian Johnston (13) card countback; plus 3 John McAuley (19).

Division Three: plus 4 Layton Graham (27).

Harrogate Union Ogden Trophy

This amateur strokeplay competition was this year played at Ripon City golf club and our congratulations and commiserations go to Kevin Ward who lost out to Joe Buckley on a countback having both returned gross scores of 141 over 36 holes.

Seniors Medal

White Tee Medals strike fear into some of our more elderly, however, plenty turned out on Friday morning to accept the challenge and Jim Nicholson showed the way it should be done.

Results: 66 Jim Nicholson (16); 72 Stan Suggitt (11) and Walter Raine (17), card countback required. Best gross Brian Knapton.

Ladies

Mail on Sunday: Congratulations to the Bedale team of Sue Mayman, Gillina Petrie, Mavis Burton and Julia Doughty who played against Bingley St Ives at Bedale in the sixth round of the competition. A thrilling match ended after 18 holes as a draw and the pressure was on Julia Doughty who was chosen to play in a sudden death match to decide the winners. Julia sank the winning putt on the third extra hole to put Bedale Ladies into the seventh round of the competition.

Gillian Petrie: A long trip down to Buckinghamshire for Gillian to play in the final of the Ladies Golf Union Gold Medal at Denham golf club. A gross score of 69 qualified the course record and with a net 64 won her the Gold Medal. Well done Gillian.

Harrogate Union Bronze Division: In this Union competition Pauline Morris won the best gross prize.

Bishop Auckland

Sportsweek Trophy (strokeplay)

A three-way tie for first place with net scores of 63 was Warren Bolton, George Edgar and Jason Hughes. A play-off is to be arranged. The best gross was Peter Giblin with a 74.

July Medal (strokeplay)
