Spennymoor manager Alex Mathie is delighted with his two latest captures.

After signing Gary Hobson a fortnight ago, Mathie has now recruited the well-experienced Nick Richardson and youngster Anthony Shandran.

Richardson knows his way around the Football League, having played over 500 games for Halifax, Bury, Brighton, York and Cardiff, while last season he was playing in the UniBond League for Harrogate Town.

Shandran, who is from North Shields, joined Burnley four years ago and made just one sub appearance before being loaned out to several clubs, including York City. He scored three times for York in the Third Division last season.

Mathie said: "They are both very good players. Nick has the experience to help the team, while Anthony has got loads of pace and strength."

Mathie meanwhile has confirmed that he could be playing regularly in the new season.

"I see myself as playing regularly, but much will depend on the circumstances and who we are playing against. I will be registered as a player."

Mathie will then leave duties on the bench to Dave Hodgson, who once played for Spennymoor.

Bishop Auckland manager Brian Honour is hoping to avoid injuries over the rest of the pre-season.

Honour included his new signings, Mark Foster, Phil Ross, Ian Chandler and Nicky Scaife in the 2-1 defeat to Darlington last weekend, and he said: "I think I've just about got the team I want together, and this is what we're trying to build on for the next few weeks.

"Taking away the two goals we gave away, I thought it was a good performance last week, and there wasn't a great deal of difference."

Former Darlington player Ian Banks has been appointed the new boss of UniBond Premier Division club Wakefield and Emley. Banks was previously assistant manager at Bradford City.
