A MUSICAL evening in Northern Ireland raised £700 for the Great North Air Ambulance.

The 1st Battalion, The Green Howards, is a well known North Yorkshire regiment and has been supporting the flying doctors this year, raising more than £1,000 in the last few months.

Its most recent effort was a concert which was staged at the regiment's current base in Ballykelly in Northern Ireland.

The cheque was presented on the unit's behalf by Captain Steve Mincher, who commands 122 Army Youth Team at Catterick Garrison.

The Green Howards' links with the Great North Air Ambulance were forged by former member Captain Patrick Ralf, who is the charity's former fund-raising manager.

Capt Mincher said: "The close association between the Green Howards and the area served by the Great North Air Ambulance meant it was appropriate the regiment should help the charity as much as we can.

"All our soldiers are keen to support local causes and put a great deal of effort into raising funds for the air ambulance.''
