CALLS for a public inquiry into the deaths of soldiers in barracks were increased last night following the death of another young private.
Robert Hugh Jones, of the 1st Battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers, was found dead at the regiment's base at Mons Barracks, Aldershot, Hants, on July 11.
The Army said there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances though an inquest will be held.
Labour's former Northern Ireland spokesman Kevin McNamara MP said at the weekend that the Government needed to carry out an urgent inquiry into non-combat deaths at Army bases.
"How many more times can this happen?" he said. "The MoD can't sit back and allow these incidents to continue."
The families of four privates who died at Deepcut barracks in Surrey, including County Durham soldier Geoff Gray, 17, have led the calls for a public inquiry.
Parents of young recruits who died at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, also back the campaign.
