HARTLEPOOL: Richard Hope and Paul Robinson are hoping to convince Hartlepool United boss Neale Cooper to offer them permanent deals this week, writes Paul Fraser.

The pair, who were on trial at the Second Division new-boys before the pre-season trip to Holland, are back training with Pool. And both defender Hope and striker Robinson are expected to play some part in tomorrow's behind-closed-doors friendly with a Sunderland XI at the Academy of Light.

Stockton-born Hope, an ex-Darlington player, is out of contract after being told he can leave Northampton, while former Newcastle man Robinson has been freed by Wimbledon after failing to command a regular first team place.

Cooper, meanwhile, is also thought to be in the market for another left-back. The former Ross County chief currently only has Mark Robinson and inexperienced John Brackstone who can play in that role. He is determined to add some new blood before the start of the new campaign, which kicks-off two weeks on Saturday.
