AN accordion player has shown that age is no barrier to achieving ambitions.
Lillian Pattinson, 63, from Stanley, County Durham, has successfully completed a course in playing the accordion from the London College of Music and Media - the first person from the region to do so.
Mrs Pattinson has been working hard for months to pass the Advanced Diploma in Scottish Traditional Music for Accordion, and recently found out she had passed with honours.
An examiner from Edinburgh visited her at her home to test her competence in playing a series of pieces, including marches and reels.
A piano teacher by profession, Mrs Pattinson said: "I thought I had done quite well and I got a big hint that I had passed when the examiner said that there was always room for a good accordion player in Scotland.
"I now have a small group of six learning the accordion and hopefully that will grow in time."
