HEALTH officials in Sedgefield borough are hoping an appointment can help them gain a closer working relationship with GP practices.

Practice manager Jennifer Wood has been co-opted on to the Sedgefield Primary Care Trust (PCT) professional executive committee (PEC).

Mrs Wood, 41, has worked at Dr Andrew Oakenfull's practice, in Ferryhill and Chilton, for more than nine years.

Two years ago she took on the role as the link manager between practice managers and the trust. Because she was already liaising with the board, it was felt she could play a key role on the committee, which represents GPs, dentists, opticians and other health specialists on the trust.

Mrs Wood said: "I was very pleased and delighted to be asked because I think it gives the managers a voice on the PEC.

"I can feed back to the managers what's gone on in the PEC meetings, but it's a two-way process because I can feed back to the PEC how things could be implemented in practice."
