Motorists in Hambleton are being warned about the temporary closure of High Lane West in Cowling, from its junction with the minor road to Newton le Willows at High Pond House, eastwards for a short distance.

Water mains maintenance work will take place over five days from Monday. An alternative route will be signed.

EASY WALK: A guided walk leaves for West Burton, in Wensleydale, tomorrow. The easy five mile route visits Cauldron Force and the village, leaving from the Aysgarth National Park Centre at 1.30pm. There is a £2 fee for adults. Dogs are welcome.

LIBRARY PRIZES: North Yorkshire County Council's member for library services, Councillor Carl Les, will be at Great Ayton library on Saturday, presenting prizes following a promotional event for the hire of DVDs.

HIT AND RUN: Police in Thirsk wish to speak to the witness who saw a red car damage a green Honda CRV in Tesco's car park, Thirsk, on Thursday, July 17, before leaving the scene. The witness left a note on the windscreen of the Honda but gave no contact details. Anyone with information is asked to call (01609) 783131.

POLL REVIEW: District council officials are to investigate ways of improving polling stations and voting across Ryedale following complaints of problems at May's local elections. Members of the district, parish and town councils will be consulted.

KNOCKOUT FUN: An It's a Knockout event on York's Knavesmire raised more than £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Relief. Twenty three teams from across the county took part and the winner was Shepherd Engineering Services.

CROSSING SHUTS: The level crossing at Kirkham Abbey, near Malton, is to be closed from 10.30pm on Saturday until 9am the following day for essential maintenance.
