Northern Counties Association Championships: There will be a bowling bonanza at Stockton Bowling Club in Salisbury Terrace tomorrow and Sunday when stars from Durham, Yorkshire, Northumberland and Lancashire play in the Northern Counties Bowling Association Championships.

Among the many stars on view the Durham side will include David Bolt, the under 25's international, Glen Skipp from Owton Lodge, Kenny Briscoe from Houghton-le-Spring Dairy Lane and Graham Peacock from Darlington Hundens, whilst the Northumberland team will include Paul Ging and Stephen Birdse, both under 25's internationals.

On Saturday, 9th August at 10.00 am the semi-final draw for the Triples is Yorkshire v Lancashire and Durham v Northumberland; the semi-finals of the Pairs will be Durham v Northumberland and Lancashire v Yorkshire with the first semi-final of the Fours, where Durham play Yorkshire. On Saturday afternoon at 2.00 pm The Singles semi-finals will be Lancashire v Yorkshire and Northumberland v Durham. At the same time the Pairs Final and the triples Final will take place.

At 10.00 am on Sunday morning the second semi-final of the Fours will be between Northumberland and Lancashire. At 10.30 am the Two Wood semi-finals will be Northumberland v Lancashire and Yorkshire v Durham whilst the under 25's Fours Championship semi-finals will be Yorkshire v Northumberland and Lancashire v Durham. At 2.00 pm in the afternoon the finals of all events will be completed.

Durham League

A single shot cost Crook Glenholme a vital point when they hosted the top of the table clash with Leeholme. The 77 shots to 76 victory for Leeholme pushed them ten points clear at the top of the First Division with just three matches remaining.

Bishop Auckland, who had just reached the top of the Third Division, almost lost the honour when they only took two points out of the visiting Mainsforth, who won by 59 shots to 52. Durham City opened out a three and a half points lead at the top after they whitewashed their hosts at King George V, leaving reigning champions Vane Tempest, who won by the odd point at Spennymoor, a major task in the last five matches, if they are to repeat their Championship win.

Pelton Fell were able to move into fourth place after they won by the odd point against a depleted Dean Bank side. SWD Vets Team Knock Out

Sherburn will face Crook Glenholme in the final after both came through their semi-finals with comfortable victories. Sherburn beat Dean Bank by 75 shots to 35, whilst Crook Glenholme beat Leeholme by 80 shots to 32.

South West Durham League

Glenholme are showing excellent form in the second half of the season and gained their second consecutive 10-0 victory. The revenge was sweet, as opponents Addison Park had taken all ten points when the sides met early in the season.

BlackhallLadies hopes of winning the League Title improved after last week's games saw them make progress, however slight, against their closest challengers.

Blackball were 4-1 home winners over Staby House, Wingate, next in line, gained a 2-3 win at Park, long time League Champions. Peterlee lost ground when losing 4-1 at Grayfields, Bum Valley were held to a 21/2-21/2 draw at Owton Lodge, and improving Hartlepool were 3-2 home winners over Shotton.

Brinkburn Dene are looking good to repeat their league and cup success of last season. Well clear of their rivals in the league they had a comfortable win over Barnard Castle in the semi-final of the Harrison Cup and will now meet Railway Athletic in the final.
