A 15-YEAR-OLD girl is cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats as part of her effort to raise £10,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Sophie Adams, of Norton, near Stockton, hopes to be the youngest cyclist to attempt the journey this year, and as her grandfather, Jack Adams, is president of the Land's End - John O'Groats Association, she will be kept well informed about the event.
Mr Adams said that his granddaughter, who he has brought up with his wife, chose the Cystic Fibrosis Trust after trawling through the Internet to find a suitable cause to help.
"Since then we have met some people who suffer with the condition and they have some heartbreaking and yet wonderful stories," he said. "It's a tall order to raise that kind of money, but Sophie has also arranged a charity night at Billingham Constitutional Club next month and she will be doing fundraising throughout her bike ride."
Sophie, a pupil at Norton Comprehensive School, sets off today on a journey that is expected to take about three weeks to complete.
To sponsor her, or to buy a £1 ticket for the entertainment and charity night at the Constitutional Club, on Wednesday, September 24, contact Mr Adams on (01642) 657752.
