Worthington Durham County CIU Summer League: Meadowfield moved back to sole ownership of the top spot in the Second Division after they beat the visiting Crook Belle Vue for the loss of only one point.

The home side looked to be well on their way to a whitewash with wins from John Jackson, Martin Halliday, Stephen Hughes and Craig Hughes, but Harold Lomax recovered in the final frame to take the visitors' only point.

Crowtrees moved up a point behind Meadowfield after they won the decider at Wheatley Hill B. Tony Ellison put the home side ahead but Crowtrees took the next two through Peter Laverick and Sean Johnston. Jock Frost equalised by inflicting the first defeat of the season on Steven Armstrong but Sonny Hann took Crowtrees to victory when he beat Ken Johnson in the decider.

Spennymoor B's reign at the top of the Second Division only lasted a week for they travelled to Ferryhill and only collected one point when Phil Wilson won. The home side had wins from Mark Wilson, Ian Fawcett, Neil Spender and Bernie Jones. This dropped the Moors two points behind the leaders.

Stanley Central moved up to share third place with Spennymoor B after they won the decider at Wingate. The Central went two up with wins from Peter Thompson and Walter Cornell. John Bourne then put in a 52 break and a 38 to pull one back and Joe Hennessey levelled. In the decider Stanley's Andy Craig beat Jimmy Mason.

Spennymoor A's command of the First Division continued with a whitewash success over the visiting Shotton Palms with wins from Michael Pratt, Paul Atkinson, Ronnie Bateman, Paul; Biddle and Karl Welsh. This victory moved them ten points clear at the top.

Wheatley Hill A beat their hosts at Fishburn A for the loss of only one point to stay in second place in the First Division, five points ahead of Newton Aycliffe. Fishburn's lone point came from John griffin, who put in a 38 break. The winners for the Hill were Alan Hall, Dave Walker, Ronnie Peacock with a 42 break and Jack Wright.

Newton Aycliffe only dropped one point on their visit to Brandon, who had Graham Jackson as their only winner. The visitors' points came from Michael Hewitt, Peter Brown, Mark Howe and Simon Tweddle.

Newhouse started well at Sherburn Village with wins from Paul Wright and Ronnie Pearson but John Bower and Alan Greener moved up to level. In the decider Sherburn's Adrian Twist beat Ian Dinsdale.

Witton Gilbert twice trailed in their home match against Willington but came back to win in the decider. Stan Bennett put the visitors ahead but John Rooney junior levelled. Jeremy Martin restored the Willington lead only to see John Rooney senior equalise. In the decider Ian Renwick snatched the final black to beat Willington's Gordon Parkin.

Bearpark moved four points clear at the top of the Third Division after they only dropped one point to the visiting Sacriston. Jeff Evans put the visitors ahead in the first frame but from there it was all Bearpark with wins from Glen Morton, Shaun Easter with a 41 break, Andy Donaldson and Alan Smith.

New Durham moved up to share second place in the Third Division with Coundon after they only dropped one point to the visiting Tow Law B. The home side went four up through Thomas Cairns, Gordon Bowes, Neil Phillips and Phil Garr before Lee Stockdale pulled out a good clearance of the last three colours to take the Lawyers lone point.

Coundon's quest for promotion floundered when they went two down at Leeholme A, who had wins from Barry Shaw and Lawrence Jones. However Graham Goulbourn and Steven Bennett levelled the match and Stuart Neil clinched Coundon's victory when he beat Karl Thompson in the decider.

Hunwick moved into fourth place in the Third Division after they only dropped one point to the visiting Leeholme B. Norman Kirkley, Tom Ward, Des Mason and Trevor Lomax put the home side ahead but Lee Todd took the final frame for Leeholme to prevent the whitewash.

Fishburn B took the first and last frames at Tow Law A with wins from Alan Wilson and Keith Binks but the home side went to victory with wins from Heppell Hodgson, Stephen Laing and Doug Watson.

Delegates voted that the venue for the League's Presentation Evening should be Spennymoor with the date to be announced at the next meeting and tickets reserved at the meeting on Thursday, 25 September.

South West Durham Association

Bishop Auckland Golf Club look certain to take the Championship in their first season after taking two points from their visit to Bishop Auckland Cricket Club. This leaves them four points clear of Darlington Cricket Club B, who dropped a point to the visiting Newton Aycliffe Southerne Club and at best can only force a play-off for the title as there is only one match left.

Barnard Castle Glaxo put themselves in a strong position to land the Second Division title when they beat the third placed visiting Bishop Auckland Gents A to move two points clear of Old Shildon, who were held to a home draw by Tindale Crescent.

Rhodes v Craggs

Craggs started off with a break of 70 and went into a 2-0 lead against a player who has just qualified as a professional for the main tour of this season.

Rhodes replied back with a 50 break and took the next, to level the scores at 2-2. Craggs - nicknamed the "Misfit" then rattled another couple of quick frames with some fantastic attacking potting to lead 4-2 in a best of 11 match. Rhodes' attacking flare brought him level again with a 56 to make it 4-4 after Craggs went 5-4 up. The match ended 6-5.

This takes Rhodes into his second final in the space of two years having been runner up last year.
