THE northbound carriageway of the A1 is to be closed near Gateshead to allow workers to complete the installation of a new sign gantry and connect lighting cables.
The closure, between the Dunston Road and Hollinside interchanges, will take place from 8.30pm on Monday and Tuesday, August 18 and 19.
A Highways Agency spokesman said it was hoped the work would take one night. If, however, the work was not completed, a further day's closure would be required, during the same times.
Diversions will be clearly marked while the work is taking place, said the spokesman.
