Tow Law Coors: Billy Row Club inflicted the second defeat of the season on the visiting Championship aspirants, Newhouse Club with a win in the deciding doubles.

The visitors went ahead when they took both trebles points but then only had Brian Jones as a singles winner as the home side went ahead with singles wins from John McCorquodale, Carl Wilcockson, Neil Sulley, Keith Nicholson and George Blakey.

Newhouse levelled by taking the first two doubles but in the decider Billy Jobson and Neil Suley took Billy Row to victory when they beat Steve Turner and John Gilchrist.

Tow Law Dan's Castle made their first win of the season when they only dropped three points at Tow Law Rose and Crown. The home side had singles points from David Bruce and Dorothy Mowbray and a doubles from Christine Rand and Tony English. The Castle took two trebles, two doubles and singles from Lee Stockdale, Angela Suddes, Wayne Tennant and Anthony Hird.

The leading individual scorers were G. Blakey and J. McCorquodale 140 each for Billy Row, A. Suddes 140 for Dan's Castle, W. Anderson 140 for the New Market B and J. Campbell 140 for the Station.

Crook Ladies League

The two unbeaten teams clashed with the visiting Crook Queen's Head A recording a fairly comfortable win at Crook Jelly's Bar B, who lead the table. The Queen's took the singles at 4-2, the doubles by the odd point and completed their success by taking the double point team game.

Crook Jelly's Bar B now lead the table by four points with the Queen's Head A holding a match in hand, as well as a point advantage over the third placed Victoria Club.

The leading individual scorers were Joan Kellett 140 and Rose Clement 120 for Jelly's Bar B, Lily Wardle 137 for Jelly's Bar A, Mary Murray 131 for the New Market B, Shirley Hind 123 for the Black Horse and Karen Moses 123 for the Traveller's Rest.

Crook 4D's League

Crook Royal Sun opened out an eight points gap at the top of the darts section after they won by the odd point at Crook Coach and Horses A, who are in second place with a match in hand. The Coach A lead Crook Golden Fleece by two points after the Fleece won by three points at the Coach B.

The leading marksmen in the darts section were Tommy Proud with two 140's for the Golden Fleece and Jeff Sneath and John Hall with 140 each for the Coach and Horses B.

The Coach and Horses A lead the dominoes section by four points but the Royal Sun have a match in hand and a ten points lead over the Coach B, who have two matches in hand of their A team.

Newfit Services Willington

The new season will open on Monday, 11 August under their new sponsors from Newfit Sertvices. There are 14 teams competing with the first weeks fixtures being Willington Burn v Byers Green Royal Oak; Willington Black Horse Tavern v Willington Cottles; Sunnybrow Brown Trout v Willington Commercial; Hunwick Joiners Arms v Hunwick Quarry; Willington Brewer's Droop v Willington Black Horse Inn; Willington Lion and Unicorn v Prospect Club; Victoria Club v Willington Club.

Doreen & Ken Johnson Memorial Ladies

This Ladies four-a-side competition to be played at Crook Spitfire Club is open to teams from anywhere. The qualifying rounds will be held on Tuesday, 16 September and 23 September with the final on Tuesday, 30 September. The closing date for entry is Friday, 29 August.

Entry fee is £4 per team and can be made to Betty Chapman on 01388 764375 or to the Spitfire Club, North Road, Crook. The match format is a team game, two doubles and two singles. The competition is held in memory of Doreen Johnson, a County darts player and regular local league player, and her husband, Ken, who was also a great darts enthusiast.
