Cat lovers from around the country will head to Spennymoor Leisure Centre this month for Teesside Cat Club's 23rd championship cat show.

Hundreds of pets will be on show at the event on August 23. Doors open to the public at 1pm when there will also be refreshments and stalls.

BOWLING TRIP: A ten-pin bowling trip to Durham has been arranged for Wednesday, as part of Sedgefield Borough Council's Summer Splash programme for young people. For details and to book call (01388) 816166.

U3A MEET: The next meeting of the Wear Tees branch of the University of the Third Age (U3A) is on Tuesday, August 19, at 10am, in Bishop Auckland Town Hall. Guest speaker will be Lindsay Allason Jones, and the topic is Women of the Roman North.

CHARITY WALK: Judy and Peter Evans will be tackling the 35-mile Bilsdale Circuit in aid of St Catherine's Church, Fishburn, from midnight on Saturday, August 23 . They aim to finish the following Sunday. Sponsorship forms are available at St Catherine's Church and St Edmund's Church and the Barclays Bank branch in Sedgefield.

POOL OPENS: The swimming pool at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre will reopen on Monday after being closed for three weeks for essential maintenance. Meanwhile, a Splash Active fun day will be held at the centre on Tuesday, August 19, from 11am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3pm. The cost is 80p a session or £1.50 for the day.
