A CANTEEN isn't the best place in the world to try to lose weight but three strong-willed women have managed just that.
They shed their unwanted pounds to bring in much-needed pounds for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Chris Boyes, Anne Bennett and Denise Thompson all work in the staff canteen at the headquarters of Ryedale District Council, in Malton, North Yorkshire, and they set themselves a six-week dieting challenge.
By eating less and exercising more the ladies were confident that they would lose weight and raised almost £340 - with the help of generous council staff.
"We would all like to say a big thank you to everyone who sponsored us," said Ms Boyes. "It was hard work avoiding the temptations we were making as part of our job but it was all worth it, and between us we lost 23lb."
